2018 OSU Preseason Sevens Tournament Winners: Willamette Valley Sharks
Thanks to OSU for hosting a fantastic start to the season!
The Sharks kicked off their summer tour with a win at the OSU Preseason Sevens Tournament. The Sharks played five matches. In match 1, the Sharks defeated OSU 26-10. In match 2, the Sharks defeated Corvallis 26-12. In match 3, our third straight match, our fitness deteriorated and we lost the match 12-30 OSU. In the fourth match, we made a team decision to increase our work rate and defeated Corvallis 47-5. This created a final matchup between OSU and the Sharks. When regulation time ended, both teams were tied at 12 points each. In the two minute tie-breaker, the Sharks created a strong midfield break, which led to Sharks player John-David Masamune crossing under the posts… only to drop the ball in the try zone. This set up a 22m drop-out, which was fielded by Captain Drae Charles. He connected with Goreallah Pedro, who dotted down under the post for the try and an easy conversion. Final score: Sharks 19-OSU 12. We had an overall Points For of 135 and Points Against of 69.
